library to host pheaa college financial aid workshop for families
CENTRE HALL, PA (September 29th, 2025)— Planning for college can feel overwhelming for an entire family, especially when it comes to financing that higher education. To help local families navigate this minefield, the Centre Hall Area Branch Library will host a special presentation by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) on Wednesday, October 15th at 6 PM. The session will cover the ins and outs of undergraduate financial aid and include time for questions from the audience.
This event reflects the library’s commitment to coordinating events with local experts and their commitment to the PA Forward ® initiative, a statewide effort of the Pennsylvania Library Association that gives voice to the fact that libraries build stronger communities through five essential literacies: Basic, Information, Civic & Social, Health, and Financial. With a focus on Financial Literacy, this program recognizes that understanding student loans, grants, and scholarships is an essential step towards the success of prospective undergraduate students in Centre County.
In addition, the libraries throughout the Centre County Federation of Public Libraries—Centre County Library, Centre Hall Area Branch Library, Holt Memorial Library, and Schlow Library—offer collections of books and guides on scholarships and financial aid that families can borrow to continue learning at home. If a particular book is located at a different library within the Federation, patrons can easily request that it be shipped to their preferred library pick-up location. Books can be requested via the online catalog (available on www.centrecountylibrary.org) or with the help of library staff.
“Libraries are here to connect people to the information and community resources that they need,” said Centre Hall Area Branch Library Manager, Kathleen Edwards. “By working with PHEAA, we are helping students and families in our community develop the financial knowledge necessary to fund higher education successfully.”
Seats are limited at the event, and advance registration is required. Please contact the library at 814-364-2580 or visit https://forms.gle/SbGVJdPJWYu53PdQ6 to sign up.
