What are library outreach services?
The American Library Association (ALA) defines library outreach services on their website as “services for those who are infrequent users [of libraries] or nonusers or as services for those who are traditionally underserved.” In simpler terms, library outreach services help to bring the library to people who cannot come to the library, have difficulty getting to the library, or just do not come to the library.
Currently, we partner with local organizations (especially schools) to bring our services into other community spaces. This way, we can reach community members and students where they are. Partnership with local organizations also helps to mutually benefit both our organization and other educational, health focused, and recreational organizations; thereby creating a stronger Centre County community.
Why do we offer library outreach services?
Our vision is to be an inviting and vital part of the Centre County community by providing access to current technology and services to foster education and to enhance the community’s quality of life. Library outreach services are the effort to bring the library’s technology and services to as many community members as possible.
